I enjoy and am good at making machines understand humans via text and speech, primarily in the areas of search, recommendation and conversational systems. I spent the last 15 years working with organisations with interesting research and end-user problems to solve, innovating in this space and building a track record of moving key business metrics along the way. I achieve all these through building capabilities from ground up, inspiring smart people to push the boundary of science and tech, translating bleeding edge research into tangible commercial outcomes, and (still) being hands-on myself (occasionally). I have a PhD in Computer Science from The University of Western Australia. I have published over 50 articles in search, recommendation and conversational systems, with over 900 citations. I occasionally deliver guest lectures on practical data science and algorithm analysis at RMIT University.
